AISHK is unique in Hong Kong,
we are the only school to utilise the Australian curriculum.
Our school year starts in late January and ends in mid-December. Our calendar and curriculum means that students can easily transition to and from Australia. Students leave our school as confident and globally minded young people. Our exceptional academic outcomes are a result of students and teachers' commitment to education and their love for learning.

Wellbeing & Prosper
Wellbeing is a fundamental component of school life, significantly contributing to the overall success of all students. AISHK provides opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom, for students to experience significant personal development during their Primary and Secondary school education. Their learning journeys encompass age appropriate growth in their social and emotional wellbeing and their academic pathways. Students develop essential life skills such as resilience, independence, safe risk-taking, collaboration and leadership.
PROSPER
A working group of staff and students conducted a comprehensive review of what wellbeing means to the AISHK community. As a result, an evidence-based framework, PROSPER, anchored in positive psychology, was introduced. Its implementation is a significant milestone as AISHK formally lays the foundation for how we live, learn and grow as a community, using a common language for everyday wellbeing. The PROSPER framework is structured around a set of norms. These norms are integrated into the school's practices and programmes that enhance both wellbeing and academic achievement.
Assessment and Reporting
Assessment and reporting is ongoing at AISHK and attainment is not based on a single set of exams. Assessment is used to further students' learning and growth.
In Term 1 of the Primary and the Secondary school parents are invited to a parent-teacher interview to review how students are settling into the new year. At the end of Term 2 and Term 4 parents receive an academic report which outlines progress.
In Term 3 there is also a student-led conference that gives students the opportunity to share their learning directly with parents.
NAPLAN
The National (Australian) Assessment Programme – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an assessment programme for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.
AISHK uses these assessments to determine at what level our students are developing the literacy and numeracy skills that provide the critical foundation for all learning. Taking part in the NAPLAN assessments provides AISHK with benchmarking data so as a school we can determine how our students compare against Australian national standards. Our students across all year levels consistently perform very well, surpassing Australian national averages.
Learning Extension Primary
In the Primary school students can choose to take part in ICAS, an academic competition available globally. It recognises academic performance by using engaging, fun questions designed by psychometricians, education measurement experts and experienced teachers to test students’ higher-order thinking skills.
ICAS also provides insights into students’ strengths and weaknesses, helping teachers to accelerate learning outcomes and unlock student potential.
Learning Extension Secondary
In Secondary school, teachers tailor the learning to meet the individual needs of their students, including those for whom learning extension is appropriate. Strategies include: acceleration, where students move through the curriculum at a faster pace, enrichment activities that delve deeper into topics, or differentiated instruction strategies, such as offering more complex and challenging tasks, promoting independent projects, and encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The goal is to provide a balanced approach that nurtures their intellectual abilities while also supporting their social and emotional development. In addition, classes for English, Mathematics and Chinese are streamed, which allows students to to work with peers at similar skill levels, fostering a collaborative and stimulating learning environment.
Students in secondary are offered a wide range of academic competitions, including: ASX Share Market Game (Commerce), Big Science Competition, Battle of the Books Reading Competition (Chinese) and the Australian Mathematics Competition, to name a few.
Commitment to Inclusive Education at AISHK
AISHK is dedicated to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment through a student-centred approach. We believe in the power of collaboration to ensure each student's success. Our specialised learning enrichment staff diligently plan and deliver support programmes, providing a continuum of services tailored to meet Tier 2 and Tier 3 student needs.
Supporting Every Student
We develop personalised Student Learning Pathways for eligible students to maximise their potential and ensure equitable access to the curriculum. Our goal is to empower each student with the resources and support they need to thrive holistically.
AISHK values bilingual and multilingual learners, recognising their abilities as an asset. We offer EAL (English as an Additional Language) support to help students thrive and succeed in our school. This includes enhancing their academic vocabulary, improving their self-editing skills, and gaining the ability to thrive independently. Our balanced approach to EAL support is closely linked to students' identity and wellbeing, as we encourage them to maintain their home languages. This helps them become balanced bilinguals, enriching their overall learning experience and personal development.
