Primary at AISHK encompasses Reception (four years of age) to Year 6. Operating with a vibrant, engaging and safe learning environment, our Primary school provides an educational program that mirrors classrooms across Australia, whilst embracing the cultural context and experiences of Hong Kong.
We strive to give every student the best possible opportunity to achieve new personal bests, related to both effort and results. Student wellbeing and academics are intrinsically linked to develop life skills such as resilience, independence, safe risk taking, collaboration and leadership across all areas.

In our Reception year, the Australian Early Years Learning Framework is used as a tool to extend and enrich children’s learning with an emphasis on communication and language (including early literacy and numeracy) as well as social and emotional development.
Experienced Reception teachers know how to listen to children, encourage them to take the initiative in learning and guide them in productive ways.
Co-operative learning, the building of skills, the encouragement of creativity, the development of cognitive growth and concern for the feelings and spirit of the children are vital aspects of the education of the Reception child. The curriculum will promote the child’s intellectual, aesthetic, moral, social, emotional and physical development, bearing in mind that all children develop at differing rates.

A variety of teaching approaches are used to suit both the needs and the level of the children. Class, group and individual learning activities will be used to encourage development in all areas.
Primary (Preparatory to Year 6)
In Primary, teachers adopt a variety of approaches and strategies, depending on the subject area and each individual student’s learning style which differentiate both by task and outcome.
As children progress through the Primary years, a greater emphasis is placed on student self-discipline and organisation. Students are given ample opportunity to organise and represent their work in a variety of ways and to display higher levels of understanding. There are also opportunities for leadership skill development. At all stages, inquiry, critical thinking and independent learning are nurtured within a safe and structured, yet flexible, environment. The Primary curriculum is complemented by a diversity of events and activities to develop the whole student, enhancing their skills and showcasing their passion for sports, performing arts, public speaking, camps and outdoor experiences.
AISHK has an established, dedicated Learning Enrichment Centre (LEC). Specialised LEC staff consult with classroom teachers to plan and deliver support programs and extension opportunities to those who require support.
At AISHK, we understand that a collaborative relationship between staff, students and parents is pivotal in empowering students with a sense of ownership and pride in their work. The school offers a range of opportunities for this engagement including events which celebrate students work and parent-teacher meetings during the year.
Among other platforms, AISHK utilises Seesaw, an online journal which provides parents with a closer, student-led connection to their child’s school life at AISHK.
